Packing is stressful. You don’t want to under-pack and forget the necessities, but you want to break your back trying to get from point A to point B.
What I’ve learned regarding effective packing over my travels: less is better and there is nothing that you need that you won’t be able to find – usually quickly and affordably.
When I started traveling in early 2014, I went from carrying a brimming full 65 L pack for just one month of backpacking (which is absurd) to barely carrying that much for over a year. It takes a bit of time, but putting some thought into your list before leaving home makes life on the road much easier.
I hope that with my articles below I can help you avoid the same packing headaches – and backaches – I experienced in my own travels.
Are you absolutely insane? Was my “detailed” list above just not enough to quench your detail desire for preparing for your trip? Are you freaking out because you don’t know how to keep your clothes from getting wrinkled in your bag?
Well, I’m a little crazy, too, so you’re in luck! This list includes every single item I carry with me – from how many socks and exactly which type they are to how I pack my clothes into my bag – it’s all included on this list.
From the type of backpack I use to the style of shoes I would recommend for traveling, I have included my overall travel “favorites” – usually colorful, generally comfortable and always reliable. Warning: it’s a catch all list!
Girls, let’s face it. We have specific needs at certain times of the month. Read about my female-specific packing suggestions, new perspectives I was forced to consider while traveling during these periods (pun intended), and a few embarrassing moments that have been seared into my mind. Hopefully sharing my experiences can help you avoid the same usually uncomfortable situations. Guys, this is seriously unnecessary for you…
If this is still not enough, then you really are too crazy and I can’t help you… Just kidding – send me a message and I’ll try my hardest to help you sort through your packing conundrum!
